Flooring industry trends for 2025
As we inch closer to 2025, the flooring industry is responding to changing consumer preferences, blending timeless classics with bold, personality-driven choices. From sustainable materials to statement patterns, 2025’s trends reflect a growing desire for floors that are both functional and expressive. Mike Jones from Simply Underlay, the online flooring underlay specialists, highlights the top trends shaping the industry.
1. Light and Natural Tones
The demand has shifted towards blonde and honey-coloured woods, offering versatility and a contemporary aesthetic. Since these tones complement a wide range of interior styles, expect interest and sales of lighter-toned wood flooring only to grow as this trend establishes itself more widely. Interior designer Kaitlin Madden called it “the biggest hardwood floor color trend happening right now.
2. Sustainable Options
With sustainability at the forefront of consumer minds, interest in eco-friendly flooring options such as cork and bamboo, as well as products sourced from certifiably sustainably managed forests, remains strong.
3. Layered Textures
The trend of layering rugs over hard flooring or fitted carpets is gaining traction meaning consumers are looking for area rugs in larger sizes for that textured look.
4. Textured Surfaces
There’s a growing demand for character and texture in flooring among consumers who are increasingly looking for the weathered and rustic appearance from wood flooring with visible grains and knots, as well as textured tiles and vinyl options. This trend adds depth and interest to spaces, moving away from the perfectly smooth finishes of recent years.
5. Herringbone Patterns
The popularity of herringbone patterns continues unabated, but according to Decorilla “with a contemporary twist”. This pattern adds a touch of sophistication and visual interest to any room and is selling strongly in various materials and finishes, with wood, luxury vinyl, and tile among the strongest sellers.
6. Luxury Vinyl Tiles (LVT)
According to HouseDesigner.com, “LVT is making waves for its incredible resilience, ease of maintenance, and ability to mimic more expensive flooring materials like hardwood and stone.”
Durability, water resistance, and a wide range of designs make them an attractive option, especially in high-traffic areas or moisture-prone spaces.
7. Statement Tiles
Bold, patterned tiles are making a big comeback, especially in smaller spaces like bathrooms and entryways. Consumers are looking for personality, which they are finding in geometric and vintage-inspired patterns.
