Aldi to retire click-and-collect service

It comes as the latest service at Aldi to be discontinued, having stopped its home delivery of alcohol and Specialbuys last year after implementing it in 2015

Aldi has revealed it will be discontinuing its click-and-collect offering at the end of this week on 18 August.

According to the group, the offering was a trial and had always been under review.

By scrapping the service, Aldi said it will be able to focus on running its stores more efficiently and “maintain a price advantage over its competitors”.

The discount supermarket chain first launched the service in 2020.

It comes as the latest service at Aldi to be discontinued, having stopped its home delivery of alcohol and Specialbuys last year after implementing it in 2015.

Earlier in 2022, Aldi also ceased its grocery delivery partnership with Deliveroo

Aldi’s click-and-collect option required staff members to bring customers their online shopping order in the store’s car park for a fee of £4.99.

An Aldi spokesperson told Retail Sector: “At Aldi, our focus is on providing customers with high-quality products at the lowest possible prices. One of the ways we keep our prices low for customers is by running the most efficient supermarket business in Britain.

“As a result, we’ve made the decision to bring our Click and Collect service to an end so we can focus on doing just that.”
