Frasers appoints boyfriend of Mike Ashley’s daughter to board

David Al-Mudallal, who is in a relationship with Matilda Ashley, is now one of the youngest ever directors of a FTSE 100 company

Frasers Group has appointed a director to its board who is reportedly in a relationship with founder Mike Ashley’s youngest daughter.

According to the Sunday Times, the Sports Direct owner promoted David Al-Mudallal, 31, the chief operating officer, to its main board as an executive director last month.

Al-Mudallal, who is in a relationship with Matilda Ashley, 27, is now one of the youngest ever directors of a FTSE 100 company, and is reportedly eligible for a potential £9m bonus.

He first joined Frasers seven years ago as head of talent for Sports Direct. He was later made chief of staff at Frasers in 2019, before being appointed as group head of operations and later chief operating officer in August 2021.

The appointment means that two of the 11 members of Frasers board are in relationships with Ashley’s daughters, as CEO Michael Murray is married to Anna Ashley.

Separately, The Times revealed that Frasers acquired Double Take, a beauty business run by Matilda, for £1 last October without informing shareholders. She has resigned as a director of Double Take.

Frasers has been contacted for comment.
