Over two-thirds of consumers plan to shop locally post-Covid
According to Shopify’s survey into what the UK will look life after the pandemic, 68% of shoppers indicated that a store’s proximity will be an important factor in their purchase decision
Shopify has found that over two-thirds of consumers will plan to shop locally following the pandemic, as it published the results of its survey into what shopping in the UK will look like post-Covid.
Two-thirds (68%) of shoppers that were polled indicated that a store’s proximity will be an important factor in their purchase decision going forward due to convenience and willingness to support local businesses.
The ecommerce company and associate member of the British Retail Consortium (BRC) also revealed that 50% of customers did at least half of their shopping for non-grocery items in person during lockdown, a drop from 87% pre-Covid.
Some 70% of shoppers in the UK indicated that the choice to make contactless payments was important to them, with 67% saying that it is more important now than before the pandemic.
According to the survey, among the key reasons people wanted to return to in-person shopping were the ability to browse through shops, the opportunity to interact with products, the social aspect of shopping with friends or family, and the chance to have a personal and efficient shopping experience.
