Mohsin Issa backs GoThrift through new start-up investment fund
Following the investment in GoThrift, Boulder Investco also put £10m in Liverpool-based protein powder business, Applied Nutrition
Asda co-owner Mohsin Issa, and his partner Victoria Price, have reportedly taken a significant stake in Manchester-based secondhand clothing website, GoThrift, to back its expansion, according to The Telegraph.
GoThrift runs an online fashion store where shoppers can buy vintage clothing. It was originally founded by three friends in 2019 to sell clothes on eBay before expanding.
It comes as the couple launched Boulder Investco, a new private investment fund aimed at backing fast-growing UK start-ups, based in Jersey.
The new investment vehicle spells a change for Issa, who has previously worked in partnership with his younger brother on financial deals.
Following the investment in GoThrift, Boulder Investco also put £10m in Liverpool-based protein powder business, Applied Nutrition.
Having debuted on the London stock market with a valuation of £400m, Issa was named one of Applied Nutrition’s “cornerstone” investors.
Earlier this year, The Telegraph also confirmed Mohsin Issa’s relationship with Victoria Price, who has previously been an accountant at EY. The Big Four firm had served as Asda’s auditor up until July 2023.
After leaving EY she joined Alvarez and Marsal in February to lead the firm’s private capital division.
Price told The Telegraph: “These investments are aligned to my passion for working with entrepreneurial businesses in the UK.”
Carl Walker, co-founder of GoThrift, added: “It’s fantastic to have two investors who not only believe in our vision and our commitment to sustainable fashion but are also dedicated to supporting both the business and our team on our entrepreneurial journey.”
