Marks and Spencer’s website and app was down for several hours on Saturday (18 May) due to technical issues, the BBC has reported.

During the outage, customers saw an error message on the homepage and could not navigate to any part of the website.

The notice read: “Sorry you can’t shop through the app right now. We’re busy making some planned changes, but we will be back soon.”

However, the website and app were back to normal by 18:15 BST.

It is understood from an M&S spokeswoman that the ecommerce error was due to the retailer’s third party provider having been “temporarily affecting access”.

Customers first reported problems with access to the website and app on X around lunchtime on Saturday.

Meanwhile, some other customers complained on social media that they were unable to use their Sparks card due to the technical issue, as they did not have a physical card and claimed they had lost out on savings.
