Aldi to open 12 new stores before Christmas

New stores in Taunton and Oldham will open this month, following the opening of three new stores – in Slough, Torquay and Cannock – last week

Aldi has revealed that it plans to open 12 additional stores across the country before the end of the year.

The supermarket, which opened its 1,000th UK store in Woking last month, will be opening one new store a week between now and the end of the year.

New stores in Taunton and Oldham will open this month, following the opening of three new stores – in Slough, Torquay and Cannock – last week.

Meanwhile, towns such as Farnborough and West Bridgford are set to see new Aldi stores open in November, and several other regions across the UK will welcome new stores before the end of the year.

The openings form part of Aldi’s long-term target of 1,500 stores in the UK – with the supermarket set to invest £1.4bn on expanding its UK footprint over the next two years alone.

Each new store opening will create around 40 new jobs on average, boosting employment opportunities within local areas.

Store Assistants at the retailer receive starting pay of £11.40 per hour and those based in London receive £12.85 per hour. It is also the only supermarket to pay for breaks, which can be worth up to £972 a year.

George Brown, real estate director at Aldi UK, said: “We’re welcoming more and more customers through our doors each week, which is why we’re investing in new stores up and down the country to bring our great value groceries to even more people and meet the growing demand for Aldi.

“Shoppers know they’ll always get more for their money when they shop with us, and we’re confident Aldi’s success will continue to grow.”
