Amazon warehouse workers to strike during Prime Day
The strike will clash with Amazon’s ‘Prime Day’ event which has been announced for 11-12 July
Labour union GMB has announced that nearly 900 Amazon workers at Amazon’s Coventry warehouse in Britain will strike for three days during its Prime Day event over a pay dispute, according to a Reuters report.
In an emailed statement to Reuters, GMB said the strike will take place from 11-13 July for two hours during the morning and two hours in the evening on the three days.
The strike will clash with Amazon’s “Prime Day” event which has been announced for 11-12 July.
The Amazon workers strikes have been ongoing after the e-commerce company stated that the minimum starting pay for its employees is between £11-£12 per hour, depending on the location.
Rachel Fagan, GMB senior organiser, said: “GMB members in Coventry have time and time again shown that this fight will only end with £15 ($19.25) an hour and union rights.”
Amazon said: “We offer competitive pay, comprehensive benefits, opportunities for career growth, all while working in a safe, modern, work environment. At Amazon, these benefits and opportunities come with the job, as does the ability to communicate directly with the leadership of the company.”
On asking whether there would be delays in deliveries, Amazon added: “There will be no disruption to customers. Our Coventry site does not directly serve customer orders.”
