Argos to close 100 stores over the next year
According to The Sun, the first sites to close in August will be the ones in Grimsby, Scunthorpe and in St Stephen’s shopping centre in Hull
Argos is reportedly planning to shut down more stores next month as part of plans to close 100 sites over the next year, according to The Sun.
The retailer has already shut down 37 shops this year, including all the branches in Ireland.
Owned by Sainsbury’s, Argos is now planning to close more high street locations and expand its presence with concessions inside the supermarket chain.
According to The Sun, the first sites to close in August will be the ones in Grimsby, Scunthorpe and in St Stephen’s shopping centre in Hull.
It is believed that locations in Newport and Cardiff Bay in Wales will also shut down later on in the year.
In the current year to March 2024, Argos is set to open 30 stores inside Sainsbury’s supermarkets, leaving around 180 standalone stores in the UK.
An Argos spokesperson told The Sun that the relocations are necessary “to make shopping more convenient for customers and to enable us to invest where it matters most”.
Argos has been contacted for comment.
