Matalan makes two senior executive appointments
The strategic creation of these two new roles at executive level follows the decision of Mike Jeans to step down as operations directors after more than 20 years
Matalan has announced the appointment of Phil Hackney as chief supply chain operations officer and Katherine Davis as chief retail officer.
These new senior executives will report directly into Jo Whitfield as CEO. The roles have been created to support Matalan’s transformation, unlocking improvements to the customer journey as the business targets future growth opportunities.
Hackney’s appointment will be effective from 3 July and he will be responsible for delivering executional excellence across Matalan’s logistics and supply chain. He joins the team with a wealth of relevant logistics and supply chain experience, most recently as chief operating officer at The Very Group, and formerly in executive roles at Pets at Home and Boots, as well as international experience at Tech Data Limited.
Davis will join the business on 10 July, focusing on executing Matalan’s retail strategy. She brings deep sector experience from senior retail operational positions, most recently as global retail director at Paperchase, and previously at Pets at Home, Asda, and George at Asda, and 18 years at Marks and Spencer.
The strategic creation of these two new roles at executive level follows the decision of Mike Jeans, operations director, to progress his career from executive retail to broader business advisory, following more than 20 years at Matalan. He will leave the business in mid-July.
Jo Whitfield, CEO of Matalan, said: “I am thrilled to welcome Phil and Katherine as two great new additions to the senior executive team as we continue to move at pace through our transformation. We will be able to benefit from their deep industry experience as they support Matalan’s executional excellence in their respective focus areas.
“I would like to extend huge thanks to Mike for his instrumental role in shaping Matalan throughout his impressive tenure with the business. He has proved an inspiration and support to colleagues across the store estate and I am sure he will be very successful with the next phase of his career.”
