Sit Down with SALTO

Melanie Kay, head of Sales at SALTO, explains explains how their access control systems can be used in the retail sector

Can you tell me about the history of SALTO and the idea behind your systems? From its inception in 2001,

SALTO was created with one objective: to devise a world-class access control system that was simple to use and extremely efficient. Since then SALTO has gone on to introduce a series of innovations that have had a major impact on electronic security. SALTO hardware and software can be networked without wires to provide real-time access and instant control, while enabling integration with existing systems to improve manageability and enhance end-user experience.

How does access control work? Is it a complicated system to run?

Access control is exactly what it says; the owner of the system controls a user’s access in and around a building or group of buildings by granting access only to the doors you want them to be able to open. This makes it ideal for use in the retail environment where it can be used throughout a single large store, in a shared premises or across a chain of stores countrywide. Most people find it easy and simple to use.

How can your systems be implemented to improve a retailer’s security? Incident notifications etc?

You can grant specific access for staff, suppliers, or delivery services. You can monitor access and entrances in real-time without disturbing your store customer flow. You can keep track of who goes where and when, set the system up to create alarms such as door left open and door forced and can even set notifications for specific events, so you’re always up-to-date. Your store can be open for business and secure 24/7.

What about employee productivity?

Smart access management lets you improve your business processes and productivity and focus on what you do best: your business. You have the flexibility to give employees the opportunity to have access to all locations with the convenience of their phone. This added convenience results in a happy staff!

Can they be implemented to work across a wide store portfolio?

Yes, using our multisite platform, our departmental software or our SALTO KS cloud-based fully wireless access control system, users have an easy way to manage their retail business doors across multiple locations, simplifying the management of user building access.

Can the systems be used to help minimise operating costs in terms of security?

Yes, using our system can reduce the need for security guards/patrols or used in conjunction with them to improve site security. It can also be linked to an in-store camera system allowing users to physically see who went through a door as well as receiving an audit trail.

How do SALTO systems allow for flexibility and future proofing for an ever-changing retail landscape?

The retail sector is under tremendous pressure right now and we’re all waiting for shops to re-open again. Like the hospitality industry, some businesses have been taking advantage of the downtime to improve their offering ready for re-opening. This has included upgrading access and security by replacing mechanical keys with smart phone and cloud based products and as SALTO is infinitely scalable to a user’s needs, they can be sure that SALTO is driven by continuous innovation and is committed to developing the most technologically-advanced and aesthetically pleasing electronic locking solutions in the market.
