Wyevale sells Podington store to Cherry Lane
Wyevale Garden Centres has announced its Podington Garden Centre has been sold to Cherry Lane Garden Centre.
The sale is expected to complete by the middle of August, with Wyevale continuing to operate the centre until this date. Cherry Lane also acquired its Barnett Hill Garden Centre in March 2019.
Anthony Jones, COO at Wyevale, said: “We are pleased to have agreed the sale of Podington Garden Centre to a well established garden centre operator. Our colleagues have played a key role in the success of Podington and I would like to thank them for their commitment and contribution and wish them well for the future.”
Nick Rubins, chief executive of QD Group which owns Cherry Lane, added: “The acquisition of Podington Garden Centre is another step in the growth and success of Cherry Lane. We are a family run business and are very pleased to welcome the team from Wyevale Garden Centres and are looking forward to sharing with our customers our great value, excellent quality and ever changing spectacular new deals.”
The deal follows the 11 centres last week last week announced by Wyevale, in four separate transactions to British Garden Centres (BGC), The Plant Area Limited, Coolings Garden Centres and Maidenhead Aquatics.
BGC acquired eight centres: Albrighton, Birchencliffe, Bressingham, Gardenlands, Hemel Hempstead, Louth, Tarporley and Wolseley Bridge, following their earlier acquisition of six centres.
In separate transactions, The Plant Area Limited acquired the Woking garden centre, Coolings Garden Centres acquired the Wych Cross garden centre and Maidenhead Aquatics purchased the Dummer garden centre.
The latest sale takes takes the number of centres sold off this year 61, as the company continues to reduce its retail portfolio, with 102 sold off since the sale process began.
